Radical new gene therapy restores sight to patients with rare eye condition - BBC News

58 124 दृश्य

Scientists have been using a new form of gene therapy to treat a rare inherited eye condition which eventually causes severe tunnel vision.
Scientists have been using the new treatment on patients to try to halt further loss of sight. And they've been astonished to find that it has actually improved their vision.
Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by medical editor Fergus Walsh.

  • Yes but this is way to costly for the average joe - about £600,000 per go. They are trying to promote this for Covid but it is not the same because covid is a political tool to be used by governments for their own ends - may one day it will be used for good not evil.

  • More on the activities of the Chinese laboratory in Wuhan. This laboratory was built with the help of France and the United States, which, together with the EU, heavily funded the facility. It also appears that soldiers were permanently present inside the laboratory, a circumstance that well explains the secret "Dual Use" purposes underlying the related experiments, as I have already documented in another post. In 2019, and precisely from 18 to 27 October, the VII edition of the "Military World Games" was held in Wuhan, with the participation of athletes from many countries, including Italy. Some witnesses reported that, for the duration of the event, the athletes were taken the temperature every time they entered the stadium, and that numerous employees, equipped with insulating suits and helmets with protective screens, cleaned thoroughly every day, even more times a day, the spectator seats and passageways inside the stadium before the start of the matches and after their conclusion. What explanation can be given to this conduct, never encountered in the past on the occasion of international competitions? This suggests that an accident occurred in the Wuhan laboratory some time before the military games, presumably in early October 2019, a circumstance confirmed by the fact that the laboratory was closed in October, but without the games were canceled. The presence of the bat virus in that town's fish market was a pure diversion. During the pandemic, the Chinese government had tried to somehow corroborate the thesis that the virus came from that market, but at some point it had to officially deny this news for its obvious unsustainability. The purpose of the Chinese government was obvious. In fact, if the thesis that the Wuhan fish market had been identified as the origin of the pandemic outbreak, any suspicions about the possible escape from the laboratory of a chimeric virus, which occurred in the period indicated above and never made known to others Countries, would have been removed. If it is true, as many experts say, that the first case of human infection of SARS-CoV-2 occurred in the Chinese province of Hubei (Wuhan) between November and December 2019, the reconstruction of the facts appears entirely plausible. To tell the truth, the United States also claimed that the virus came from the Wuhan laboratory following an accident, specifying that they also knew its origin, but to date, as far as I know, they have never wanted to disclose the date on which the escape took place, nor did they provide evidence to support these claims, limiting themselves to throwing a general discredit on the Chinese government. Not believing the state secret, I wondered what could be the reason for this reluctance to provide evidence. There is a possible motivation, which could be considered as a sort of cover in favor of some important and influential subjects and, even if partial, of the US government itself. I have already mentioned that on October 18, 2019, at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, some very wealthy "philanthropists", especially from the United States, had carried out a simulation of a new viral pandemic, hoping in their final document that the World Health Organization would promptly adapt the contracts already in place with pharmaceutical companies for the production of experimental vaccines. I believe that these people did not organize the viral simulation in a casual way, nor that this particular simulation was part of a consolidated periodic practice, as some believe, but that the "simulators" already knew about the serious accident that occurred in that same period at the Wuhan laboratory and that this favored some of their power strategies, especially of a financial nature. Some time ago, I tried in every way to publish an official document that hinted at some of their purposes, but ....... ... In recalling that, for the purposes of the most appropriate treatments, preventive or not, it is of fundamental importance to know whether a virus is of natural or chimeric origin, I hope that all this may one day be the subject of investigation not only by the judiciary of individuals States, but also by the International Criminal Court. It is true that some scientists believe that the virus is not of chimerical origin, but it is equally true that other scientists think otherwise. If it were definitively ascertained that the escape of a chimeric virus from a laboratory has caused the death of millions of people, it would be conceivable not only the crime of massacre, but also a long and frightening series of crimes against humanity.

  • “God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that anyone who has faith in him may not die but have eternal life.” - (Jesus, at John 3: 16) - Where through Jesus, we shall never have to worship and pray in the way of religions, not even that of the Pope or Christianity, because religions are all led by the many false prophets who are misleading us. When Jesus alone (in the name of Immanuel) is the Son of man and the true prophet who was sent by the Lord God, to be always our one Teacher… “I will raise up for them a prophet like you [Moses] from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth.” - (at Deuteronomy 18: 18) - “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: A young woman is with child, and she will bear a son, and will call him Immanuel.” [“God is with us”] - (The Prophet Isaiah 7: 14) - “If you have ears to hear, then hear.” - (Jesus, in the name of Immanuel, the Messiah, at Mark 4: 23) - “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” - (Jesus, at John 4: 24) - “In truth I tell you, anyone who gives heed to what I say and puts his trust in him who sent me, has hold of eternal life and does not come up for judgement, but has already passed from death to life.” - (at John 5: 24) - “Beware of false prophets, men who come to you dressed up as sheep while underneath they are savage wolves. You will recognize them by the fruits they bear.” - (at Matthew 7: 15-16) - “Do not call any man on earth ‘father’; for you have one Father and he is in heaven. Nor must you be called ‘teacher’; you have one Teacher, the Messiah.” - (Matthew 23: 9-10) - “Take care that no one misleads you: For many will come claiming my name…” - (Jesus, at Matthew 24: 4) - “Many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many; and as lawlessness spreads, men’s love for one another will grow cold. But the man who holds out to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the Kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the earth as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come.” - (Matthew 24: 11-14) - “I am the way; I am the truth and I am life; no one comes to the Father except by me. If you knew me you would know my Father too.” - (John 14: 6-7) - “When you pray, go into a room by yourself, and shut the door. Pray to your Father who is there in the secret place; and your Father who sees what is secret will reward you. In your prayers do not go babbling on like the heathen, who imagine that the more they say the more likely they are to be heard. Do not imitate them. Your Father knows what your needs are before you ask him. This is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven, Give us today our daily bread, Forgive us the wrong we have done, as we have forgiven those who have wronged us. And do not bring us to the test, but save us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if you forgive others the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, then the wrongs you have done will not be forgiven by your Father.” - (at Matthew 6: 6-15) - “Pass no judgement, and you will not be judged. For as you judge others, so you will yourselves be judged, and whatever measure you deal out to others will be dealt back to you.” - (Matthew 7: 1-2) - “Truly I tell you; if anyone obeys my teaching he shall never know what it is to die.” - (John 8: 51) - “Always treat others as you would like them to treat you: that is the Law and the Prophets. Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.” - (Matthew 7: 12-14) - “I am the gate; anyone who comes into the fold through me shall be safe. He shall go in and out and shall find pasturage. The thief comes only to steal, to kill, to destroy; I have come that men may have life, and may have it in all its fullness.” - (John 10: 9-10) - “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” - (Matthew 7: 21) - “I am the resurrection and I am life. If a man has faith in me, even though he dies, he shall come to life; and anyone who is alive and has faith shall never die.” - (John 11: 25-26) - “I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world” - (John 12: 47) - “Whoever will acknowledge me before men, I will acknowledge him before my Father in heaven; and whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.” - (Matthew 10: 32-34) - “Any plant that is not of my heavenly Father’s planting will be rooted up. Leave them alone; they are blind guides, and if one blind man guides another they will both fall into the ditch.” - (Matthew 15: 13-14) - “The disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?’ He called a child, set him in front of them, and said, ‘I tell you this: unless you turn round and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven. Let a man humble himself till he is like this child, and he will be the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me. But if a man is a cause of stumbling to one of these little ones who have faith in me, it would be better for him to have a millstone hung round his neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea. Alas for the world that such causes of stumbling arise! Come they must, but woe betide the man through who they come!’” - (Mathew 18: 1-7) - “Though many are called, few are chosen.” - (Matthew 22: 14) - “An expert in the law, [a leading religious Pharisee] tested him with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. That is the greatest commandment. It comes first. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. Everything in the Law and the Prophets hangs on these two commandments.’” - (Matthew 22: 35-40) - “There is no greater love than this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends.” - (John 15: 13) - "Stay awake, and pray that you may be spared the test: The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." - (Matthew 26: 41) - “However, when he comes who is the Spirit of truth; he will guide you into all the truth.” - (John 16: 13) - “Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And be assured, I am with you always, to the end of time.” - (Matthew 28: 20) - Yours, in true Spirit and in our one given prayer, 2gointruth, Friday the 30th of April, 2021: - (Matthew 5:14-16) - Where every minute (of both day and night) can be a new beginning for any one of us. Let it always be you. Pray to God often before it is too late.

To sequence 500,000 whole genomes by 2023/24 and help transform healthcare for maximum patient benefit, including for all children with cancer or children who are seriously ill with a likely genetic disorder. Extended access to molecular diagnostics and offer genomic testing routinely to all people with cancer. Early detection and treatment of high-risk conditions including expanding genomic testing for Familial Hypocholesterolaemia. Linking and correlating genomic data to help provide new treatments, diagnostic approaches and help patients make informed decisions about their care. These commitments will be delivered on by the NHS Genomic Medicine Service for England which will provide: Consistent and equitable care to for the country’s 55 million people. Operate to common national standards, specifications and protocols. Deliver a single national testing directory covering use of all technologies from single genes to whole genome sequencing. Give all patients an opportunity to participate in research for their individual benefit but also to inform future care for other patients. Build a national genomic knowledge base to provide real world data to inform academic and industry research and development. The systematic application of genomic technologies has the potential to transform patient’s lives by: enabling a quicker diagnosis for patients with a rare disease, rather than years of uncertainty, often referred to in rare disease as the ‘diagnostic odyssey’. matching people to the most effective medications and interventions, reducing the likelihood of an adverse drug reaction. increasing the number of people surviving cancer each year because of more accurate and early diagnosis and more effective use of therapies. • As far as I know glaucoma can’t be cured. Glaucoma is caused by pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure) that damages the nerve connecting the eye to the brain. Drugs like Brimonidine, which is an alpha-2 agonist, can treat glaucoma by causing the pupil to constrict and relieving the pressure by allowing fluid (aqueous humor) to leave the eye.

    • Money and resources. But there are people who are scared of this technology. Fearing mankind is playing God. Of course there are some disturbing things that can be done, but the cures are beyond amazing.

      cfowler7cfowler712 दिन पहले
    • Coz idiots are scared of it saying we are playing God by editing our genes. Just look at how some ppl are speaking shit about the mrna vac. Not knowing the same technology could also be developed to fight cancer

  • It’s all great but who can afford that, you would think the company would give it to the medical world for the good of mankind but it seems money is more important

    GazzaGazza13 दिन पहले
    • @Kyle Castillo I actually went to moorfields hospital around a decade ago for a consultation and I just think that the people inventing this treatment would be remembered more for sharing the technology for the benefits of man and womankind than becoming super rich !

      GazzaGazza12 दिन पहले
    • @Gazza I feel you. I really do. I too have medical issues that I wish I could treat with a top of the line treatment, but the main reason why it isnt cheap is because the government doesnt see it as a priorety. A private and exclusive hospital will always charge more for things like these because of the fact that they had to use external sources to get their treatment. If it was a government funded research and program, it would be way cheaper. Other factors play such as some governments allow companies to set whatever price they want. My point is. Im not saying your lying or you dont know what you're talking about. My point is that not always do lastest medical treatment will be expensive because people want it to be expensive and set it that price.

      Kyle CastilloKyle Castillo12 दिन पहले
    • @Kyle Castillo does it, well I’m actually effected by this and losing my eyesight and having a £600.000 bill to fix it is immoral. Since when did it become the norm for people to decide to leave others in medical distress for profit and I only have to mention the people who invented antibiotics as an example of what good that has done to the world. I’d prefer Being remembered as the person who cured many peoples blindness all around the world instead of a money grabbing company who became billionaires from it instead 🤦‍♂️

      GazzaGazza12 दिन पहले
    • Not really. It factors in research and also, with more time that passes, the price will go down. Take genetic engineering for e.g, before it was extremely expensive, now, it has dropped significantly.

People who would have been worth your time, however, people who might have helped you in life, will pass you by as though you don't exist. You'll take this comment to heart or you won't. That's your affair.

The most popular subtype of it is called Leber's congenital amaurosis LCA. And the price of the drug should be lowered in the future." I was frustrated, too. At least one of us surfaced to finish the story for the reporter.

  • That's amazing, I would love to work with scientist and engineers, the joy that must bring to someone, that really is amazing the eye is the most complex organ. would a protein lipid shell be safer to use as the carrier, also Schwann cells regenerate so they could possible be used in some way, maybe polarisation of macrophages as they can adapt to any environment and regenerate. maybe extracting one cell and harvesting it and then injecting the cells back to create more, amazing job you did eyes, are hard to restore.

    Alistair MacGregorAlistair MacGregor13 दिन पहले
    • Those suggestions are rather dangerous, it would require changes to cell genome and the FDA would never approve that as such technology is not nearly ready. Luxturna was approved because it doesn't actually modify the genome of affected cells, the correct gene is inserted in cells that don't regenerate and is only a way to complement these cells. The only difference between a lipid shell and a viral vector is that the latter is more stable, easier to produce and can be directed. (I don't know if that's the case with luxturna). Scientist modify viruses and bacteria because they are simpler, extremely complex eukaryotic cells such as human, maybe only in their dreams, what we know is still the tip of the iceberg.
